Pierre Paulin

PIERRE PAULIN (1927-) French designer Pierre Paulin, perhaps best known for his Mushroom, Orange Slice or Ribbon chair for Artifort in the '60s. Paulin was a student at the Ecole Camondo in Paris and in the early fifties, he began designing furniture for Thonet. In 1958, he became the main designer for Artifort. He designed a series of sculptural furniture in the mid-sixties with an inner structure of steel tubing, covered in foam and fabric. In 1968, Paulin collaborated with Le Mobilier National and received many important government commissions including furniture and interiors for the Elysee Palace in Paris.
